Watching a replay of this terrible day was very difficult to see. One of the most sickening scenes was the poor people jumping to their death to get away from the flames. All I could think of is the way the Liberal Do-Gooders fault America for Water Boarding the people involved in all of this.
Ron was lucky enough to be in New Jersey that morning. if not he would have been in the middle of that horror. I was on the phone with him when he saw the 2nd plane hit the 2nd tower. It was visible on the N.J. side and not show live on TV yet. He told me later that he saw the people leaping to their death. It is still so unbelievable eight years later.
Too bad BO did not have dinner and theatre reservation for today. then he could have be in New York for the Memorial Services.
Nothing political - but just had to express my feelings of that horrible day 8 years ago. I moved to Florida the year before - otherwise I would've been in the Trade Center. I worked at 7 WTC (that building went down around 12:30 pm) and actually was talking to my former boss when the first plane hit. He said it was a scare but there was nothing to worry about. After the 2nd plane hit, our conversation abruptly ended and I was unable to find out anything for 2 days - whether any of my colleagues were hurt, etc. Thankfully none was but the horror each endured will live with them forever. My boss, who was the president of the bank, stayed in the Bank's temporary location in NJ for a year and retired early - 57 - too much stress for him. I did lose some of my friends who worked in Towers 1-2 - I used to have lunch with them in the plaza.
ReplyDeleteWhat a horrible day for all Americans. Please God let us not forget all who lost their lives, their families and friends, and all who volunteered their services tirelessly to find survivors
Being there was a total life changing experience. Seeing the event play out real time, trying to remain calm, and help those that could not stay calm will stick with me forever, but the most notable memory was standing on the shoreline in Jersey City, watching the North Tower implode on itself, the ground shook in NJ, and moments later, thick white smoke poured out of the Path train tunnel in Jersey City. It was unreal. Another memory that sticks in my mind were the people coming off the ferry in NJ, covered in white ash, eyeballs the only contrast to the pale white soot. It was at that moment that I knew NY would not be the place I lived in for the rest of my life. The events of 9/11 took all that away when I realized home is wherever you want it to be. I am fearful that our current government has forgotten all this , in order to make 'change', but I am sure the evils of the world will come back to haunt the Obama administration at some point, but I pray I am wrong.
